St. Pete named third best beach town

ST. PETE BEACH — St. Pete Beach has been ranked one of the top beach towns in the United States by a national parenting magazine.

Parents magazine has issued a list of the best beach towns in the country, and St. Pete Beach was third on the list.

From building sand castles on the beautiful beach to real-life sand castle accommodations, the magazine says the area strikes a balance for families.

It’s an assessment parent Alison White agrees with.

“Besides the beach being absolutely beautiful, it’s very family oriented, you’ll see a lot of families coming, a lot of kids running around,” she said. “Everyone seems to have the same respect for this being a child’s play area as well as adults coming to enjoy it.”

David Downing with Visit St. Pete/Clearwater says people notice rankings like this.

“Families pay attention to Parents magazine, so this is something that works doubly for us,” he said.

Downing says the ranking is great exposure for St. Pete Beach and surrounding areas, too.

The magazine says it combed thousands of beaches, looking at water quality, safety, entertainment on land and sea, and affordability.

The entire list from Parents magazine:

1.  Hilton Head Island, South Carolina
2.  Coronado, California
3.  St. Pete Beach, Florida
4.   Falmouth, Massachusetts
5.   Cape May, New Jersey
6.   Amelia Island, Florida
7.   Kitty Hawk, North Carolina
8.   Kamuela, Hawaii, The Big Island
9.   Gulf Shores, Alabama
10.  Rehoboth Beach, Delaware
