TAMPA, Fla. (AP) _ A former Army ranger who suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder has pleaded guilty to trying to bring a loaded handgun and 300 rounds of ammunition onto MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa last summer.
The Tampa Bay Times (http://bit.ly/x9cCJB ) reported Monday that federal prosecutors are recommending a year’s probation for 49-year-old Scott Harkenreader.
Harkenreader was working as a civilian contractor when MacDill security personnel got a report that he was bringing a weapon onto the base.
He was stopped Aug. 1 trying to enter the south Tampa facility, which houses the headquarters of U.S. Central Command and U.S. Special Operations Command.
His attorney said he was licensed to carry the gun, although his license was not valid on the base.
