TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Senators are expected to start debating a version of a South Florida prison privatization plan.
Debate on the bill (CS/CS/SB 2038) is set for Tuesday and a vote is expected Wednesday.
Plan proponents say it guarantees savings that can be put toward education and public health. Estimates have shown that figure at $22-45 million a year.
Corrections workers oppose the idea. They say the plan will put state employees out of work and reduce public and inmate safety.
A related bill has been filed in the House.
