HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) _ A man who reported his father missing at a New York beach faces charges that include conspiracy to commit insurance fraud.
Jonathan Roth has a Long Island court appearance Tuesday.
Raymond Roth vanished on July 28. The massive air and water search cost tens of thousands of dollars.
Jonathan Roth has maintained that he had nothing to do with his father’s actions.
Police believe Raymond Roth was in Florida after he went missing.
Then, last Thursday, he got a speeding ticket in Santee, S.C.
The officer who stopped him saw that Roth was in a national registry of missing people.
Roth said he was returning to New York, and the officer let him proceed north.
His whereabouts Tuesday were still unknown.
