Police Arrest Female Who Beat Elderly Couple

Winter Haven Police have made an arrest in the Jan. 3, 2012 attack on an elderly couple during a robbery at their Winter Haven home. The elderly man was bitten on the arm when the attack occurred.

Police have now arrested and taken into custody 41-year-old Yolanda Rae Gibson of  Winter Haven after being positively identified in the attack.

Gibson has been charged with Burglary of a Dwelling, Robbery, two counts of Battery on the Elderly and Tampering with a Witness. She is being held at the Polk County Jail.

Authorities say on January 3, 2012 at approximately 12:25 p.m., the couple (ages 68 and 67) had just returned to their Winter Haven home from eating lunch out at a local restaurant when they found a white female standing in their bedroom.

The suspect fled and the homeowner gave chase while his wife called police.

The elderly man found the white female, now identified at Yolanda Gibson, hiding in some bushes near the home and they struggled.

During the struggle, Gibson took items from the victim’s pocket and then bit him on both arms and then ran, falling into a canal, then swimming to a neighboring dock and ultimately running away from the site.

As the victim walked back towards his home, he saw the suspect running. He also saw a green SUV leaving the area.
