A Palm Harbor man died Monday when he was pierced by the branch of a tree he was felling.
Dan Paul Butts, 63, died at his home, 2950 Leprechaun Lane, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said.
The accident happened about 3:15 p.m. when Butts and his girlfriend, 50-year-old Beverly Drew, were in the backyard clearing trees.
Butts had cut a tree with his chainsaw and tied a rope around the tree. His girlfriend got into a Ford SUV and started pulling the tree with her vehicle, the sheriff’s office said.
