NY Man Suspected of Faking Own Drowning Arrested

BABYLON, N.Y. (AP) _ A man suspected of faking his own drowning at a New York beach in a scheme to collect on a life insurance policy has been arrested.

Raymond Roth arrived Wednesday at state park police headquarters in handcuffs.

He’ll be arraigned later in the day. He faces charges of insurance fraud, conspiracy to commit insurance fraud and falsely reporting an incident.

His attorney says he’ll plead not guilty.

Roth was arrested after spending about 10 days in a hospital for psychiatric treatment.

He was reported missing by his son on July 28 at Jones Beach.

Roth was later reported to be in Florida and got a speeding ticket in South Carolina.

His son was arrested last week. Court documents say they conspired to get more than $50,000 in life insurance.
