No Charges In Tampa Road Rage Case

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say no charges are being filed against a man who fatally stabbed another motorist with an ice pick during a road rage incident last month in Tampa.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said Monday that prosecutors found no evidence to disprove 62-year-old Alcisviados Polanco’s claim that he was defending himself against 20-year-old Wathson Adelson. Deputies said the older man cut off Adelson in traffic, leading to the confrontation Nov. 21.

The two men struggled, and Polanco grabbed an ice pick he had in the car and stabbed the much larger Adelson in the head and arm. Adelson died later at a hospital.

Florida’s “stand your ground” law allows people to defend themselves with deadly force if they fear someone is trying to kill them or cause serious injury.
