Spring Hill Barricaded Man Taken Into Custody

The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office was on the scene early this morning at William Michael Bennett Junior’s home in Spring Hill.

At approximately 4:00 a.m. the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from a man who lives at 6042 Parnell Ave.

Shortly after the 911 call was received it was determined that the man was Bennett and that he was upset and began making threats towards law enforcement and had barricaded himself inside the house.

Bennett, 44,  had contacted the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office and implied he wanted to harm himself and any law enforcement officers who responded to his home.

Bennett told the operator he was upset due to issues with his wife.

At approximately 8:30 a.m. Bennett came to his front door and was subsequently hit with a less-than-lethal beanbag round by a SWAT Team member.

At that time Mr. Bennett was successfully taken into custody and is currently being evaluated.

Due to the close proximately of Mr. Bennett’s home to the Spring Hill Elementary school, the school district has decided to close Spring Hill Elementary for the day.
