Keys Man Caught Flying Customers With Fake License

plane_keysKEY WEST, Fla. (AP) — Authorities in the Florida Keys say a man with a fake pilot’s license was flying customers in an unregistered plane.

Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Director of Aviation Brooks Bateman says the light sport aircraft belonging to John Walsh of Marathon was “falling apart due to saltwater exposure.”

Bateman tells The Key West Citizen (http://bit.ly/Ig2SDM ) that Walsh showed investigators a fake pilot’s license and was actively advertising for customers on the social networking site Facebook.

Walsh was charged Tuesday with felony possession of an unregistered aircraft and felony operation of an aircraft in a careless or reckless manner. Sheriff Rick Ramsay says additional charges may be pending.

Walsh posted $10,000 bond Tuesday. Jail records did not show whether he was represented by an attorney.

The Federal Aviation Administration also is investigating.
