Honduran Sentenced For Worker Smuggling

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — A Honduran man has been sentenced to more than three years in prison for conspiring to transport more than 100 undocumented workers around the United States.

Rigoberto Bautista-Villanueva was sentenced Monday in a Florida federal court.

A federal jury convicted Bautista-Villanueva last November on the conspiracy charge and also on two charges of transporting illegal aliens.

Prosecutors say he worked with others in Houston to move 100 undocumented workers throughout the United States.

He was caught last year while moving three undocumented workers to Jacksonville.

Federal officials say he likely will lose his permanent resident status because of the conviction and be deported to Honduras.
