Gifts for Foster Kids Stolen From Church

CLERMONT, Fla. (AP) — Thousands of dollars in Christmas gifts for foster children have been stolen from a central Florida church.

WESH 2 News reports the gifts were taken from the Liberty Baptist Church in Clermont sometime between Friday night and Saturday morning.

The Foster Parents for Lake and Sumter Counties told the station 130 toys and 1,500 gift cards were taken. The loss is estimated at $20,000.

Organizers had been collecting and purchasing gifts for nearly 100 children since October. They are now working to collect new gifts before Christmas.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crime. Anyone with information is asked to call Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS.
