Horse Rescued After Ground Gave Way

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say a horse was rescued after falling onto her side when the rain-sodden ground she was standing on gave way.

Tea Cup was standing under a shade tree Thursday afternoon at the 265-acre Retirement Home for Horses at Mill Creek Farm.

The Gainesville Sun (http://bit.ly/M6C20o ) reports the ground had been softened by heavy rain dumped by Tropical Storm Debby last month.

Mary Gregory, who runs the home for horses, says Tea Cup fell into a swale and couldn’t get up.

She called the sheriff’s office.

A deputy and a veterinary rescue team rescued the horse.

It was the second time Tea Cup has been rescued.

She and another horse came to the north Florida retirement home 10 years ago after they were seized by police at a Miami slaughterhouse.
