ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (AP) — Christmas wasn’t just another holiday for one northeast Florida couple — it was also their 70th wedding anniversary.
Mildred and Melvin McQuaig of St. Augustine celebrated their seventh decade of marriage on Sunday with four generations of their family.
About 90 children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends joined the couple’s party.
Eighty-seven-year-old Mildred McQuaig tells The St. Augustine Record (http://bit.ly/tb5g59) that the secret to success in marriage is to “forgive and be forgiven.”
Melvin McQuaig is 90. The couple met when Mildred was 14, and after three years they decided to marry. They had to move up their wedding date six months to Christmas Day in 1941 after Pearl Harbor was bombed.
