FHP: 3 Drivers Run Over Man Hit By Car

BRADENTON, Fla. (AP) — The Florida Highway Patrol is looking for three drivers who ran over a man’s legs after he had already been struck by a vehicle along a Tampa Bay area highway.

Authorities say a vehicle driven by 19-year-old James O’Brien struck 52-year-old Andrew Harris as he crossed the Tamiami Trail near Bradenton on Monday night.

Troopers are asking for the public’s help in finding the hit-and-run drivers.

The FHP says O’Brien stopped and tried to wave off other motorists as Harris lay in the road. According to an FHP report, three more vehicles drove around them, running over Harris’ legs.

Harris remains in critical condition.

Troopers say O’Brien could not have avoided the man and will not be charged.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call FHP.
