Family Dogs Attacks 4-Year-Old Girl And Father

ST. PETERSBURG – Two family pets were euthanized this morning after attacking a 4-year-old girl and her father Thursday night.

John Faucette told police his two dogs, a pit-bull mix and Labrador retriever, had never showed aggression toward anyone until attacking his daughter.

The family dogs bit the girl on the face and then attacked Faucette as he whisked the child to safety inside a bathroom at their home, at 3028 Yale St. N., according to police.

Faucette told police that before the attack, his daughter was playing and running with the dogs. He was in the living room when he heard the girl scream from her bedroom, police said.

“When he ran into the bedroom, he saw that she was bleeding from the face, and she said the one of the dogs had bitten her,” St. Petersburg Police Department spokesman Mike Puetz said in a news release.

Faucette grabbed his daughter and stood up, but the dogs began attacking him, Puetz said. He fought off the animals by kicking and punching them until getting his daughter to the bathroom and shutting the door, police said.
