Deputies Fatally Shoot Knife-Wielding Man

DELAND, Fla. (AP) — Lake County Sheriff’s deputies fatally shot a man who threatened them with a knife.

Authorities say deputies responded to a central Florida home after Mary Cecil called 911 late Tuesday to report that her son had hit her.

Deputies say Vincent Cecil refused to drop the knife and made an aggressive move toward them. That’s when they opened fire.

The Orlando Sentinel (http://thesent.nl/nmpXjC ) reports it was unclear how many deputies fired at Cecil. He was taken to a hospital, where he died early Wednesday.

Sheriff’s officials say Cecil had been violent toward officers in the past. He was wanted for failing to appear in court on charges of aggravated battery toward a law enforcement officer.

All deputies involved in the incident have been placed on administrative leave.
