TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say a north Florida veteran tried to set his mother-in-law’s house on fire and shot the family dog.
The Levy County Sheriff’s Office says 25-year-old Arthur Lee Pipes of Chiefland showed up at his mother-in-law’s house Friday and began spreading gasoline around. Deputies say she wrestled a cigarette lighter from his hands, and then he went outside and shot the dog several times.
The sheriff’s office says on Thursday, Pipes’ wife had called deputies and said he was armed and angry that she wanted a divorce. She also told deputies Pipes had been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder at a veterans hospital and had been out of medication for more than six days.
Pipes was held Sunday on $600,000 bond. It wasn’t known if he had an attorney.
