Coast Guard to Restrict Boat Traffic for RNC

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) _ The U.S. Coast Guard will restrict boat traffic during the Republican National Convention in August.

According to the Tampa Tribune (http://bit.ly/ONO2RF) the Coast Guard did a study of ways to make the convention safe _ and decided to nix recreational boat traffic on various downtown Tampa channels and the Hillsborough River.

Commercial vessels, including freighters, tankers, barges and tugboats, will be able to continue to move about the port and along the channels on the east side of downtown but need special permission from the Coast Guard.

Even then, all vessels moving in the zone are subject to boarding and inspection.

The rule takes effect Aug. 25 and lasts through Aug. 31.

Boaters with vessels moored in the zone will be unable to move their boats.
