A Citrus County Deputy has been involved in shooting this morning.
Dispatchers received a 911 call at 6:50 a.m. this morning and because the operator could not get a verbal response from the caller, a deputy was dispatched to a home on West, Beamwood Drive in Beverly Hills.
Once the deputy arrived, she saw a 30-year-old white male in the driveway who appeared to be armed and would not respond to her verbal commands.
According to witnesses at the scene, shots were fired and the man was injured.
He was transported to Seven Rivers Regional Medical Center in Crystal River and is reportedly listed in critical condition.
The deputy, 33-year-old Laura Newton, was unharmed. She has served with the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office since 2004.
As is customary in officer-involved shootings, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement will be conducting the investigation.
