Board of Governors Meeting With FAMU Faculty

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — The panel that oversees the State University System is meeting with faculty members from Florida A&M University in the wake of a student’s hazing death.

The Board of Governors with talk with the professors prior to holding a regular business meeting Thursday in Tallahassee.

The board is investigating the death of Marching 100 drum major Robert Champion while the band was in Orlando for a football game in November.

The board is investigating whether officials of the Tallahassee university ignored past warnings about hazing involving band members.

An autopsy report ruled the death a homicide. It concluded Champion suffered blunt trauma blows to his body and died from shock caused by severe bleeding.

A criminal investigation remains open and no charges yet have been filed.
