Acquaintance Says Man Confessed to Child Killings

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) _ Newly released police files indicate an acquaintance says a man charged in the deaths of two children found stuffed in luggage in a South Florida canal confessed to the slayings.

Thirty-five-year-old Clem Beauchamp repeatedly has said he’s innocent of the deaths last year of the children and their mother, an ex-girlfriend who was found dead in a landfill in 2010.

Documents released this week by prosecutors contain the acquaintance’s account, which says Beauchamp regretted killing the children, but not their mother.

A transcript says Beauchamp insisted on his innocence during hours of police questioning about the acquaintance’s statement.

Beauchamp’s attorney did not immediately return a call Thursday seeking comment.

Beauchamp currently is serving a 10-year federal sentence on an unrelated gun charge.
