62-year-old Man Shoots 61-year-old Wife

Police arrested a man who says he shot his wife to end her suffering.

Randall Walton Willis, 61, called the sheriff’s office at 12:10 p.m. and told them he had shot and killed his wife because she was terminally ill.

He is set to appear before a judge today.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, Willis shot his wife, Gilda Willis, 62, at their home on Clewis Avenue in Tampa, in the head and chest, called 911 and waited for deputies.

He now is charged with second-degree murder.

Investigators said he admitted to shooting his wife, saying he did not want her to suffer anymore and that the couple had been going through financial problems, their home was in foreclosure and had just gone up for public sale yesterday.

Detectives are now searching the home and will continue the investigation.
