Florida: Led U.S. In Job Growth Last Month

RickScott_JobGrowth_2013TAMPA — Florida led the nation in job growth last month, gaining 44,600 jobs between September and October, new figures from Florida’s Department of Economic Opportunity show.

That was the fastest job growth since June 2006, the department said. The added jobs likely also helped the state’s unemployment rate fall slightly from 6.8 percent in September to 6.7 percent last month.

One caveat, though, is the state’s labor force fell slightly in October. A declining labor force can artificially improve the unemployment rate, although it wasn’t immediately clear how much the dip in labor force affected the jobless rate.
