FL Lawmakers To Debate Guns On Campus Again

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) _ Lawmakers will once again consider allowing people with concealed weapons permits to carry guns on state university campuses.

House and Senate committees will take up bills Wednesday filed ahead of the 2016 legislative session that opens in January.

Similar bills died each of the past two sessions, including earlier this year in the wake of a gunman outside a Florida State University library injuring three people before police killed him.

Opponents say allowing guns in an atmosphere where there’s drinking and stress would be dangerous, while proponents say that it will allow students to protect themselves.

The committees will also consider a bill that would outlaw outdoor gun ranges on residential property in thickly settled neighborhoods.
