FL Consumer Confidence Up Slightly

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) _ Consumer confidence in Florida is rising slightly.

The monthly University of Florida consumer sentiment survey released Friday ticked up less than a point from July.

The new survey shows that consumer sentiment was 91.2 in August.

That’s on a scale of 2 to 150 benchmarked to 1966 at a value of 100.

Floridians’ confidence reached a post-recession peak earlier this year. But there’s been a drop-off since then.

Chris McCarty, director of the university center that does the survey, said in a statement that many people who were interviewed were “particularly optimistic about the future direction of the U.S. economy.”

But McCarty pointed out that the interviews for the survey were conducted over the entire month.

He warned that the impact of the recent stock market drop may not show up in the data right away.
