ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say a central Florida sheriff’s deputy has been killed in a traffic accident.
The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office says Deputy Matt Miller died in a traffic crash while on duty in Altamonte Springs.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol crash report, the 53-year-old deputy was driving a motorcycle north of Orlando in Seminole County when a Volkswagen Jetta attempted to turn left directly in front of him.
The report states that the motorcycle struck the car’s passenger side.
According to FHP, the car’s 49-year-old male driver was hospitalized in critical condition. The crash report states that charges are pending.
FHP says the deputy was wearing a helmet. The sheriff’s office says Miller was a 24-year veteran of the agency.
