Fertilizer Plant Worker Badly Burned By Acid

RIVERVIEW, Fla. (AP) _ Authorities say a worker was burned over much of his body after falling into a tank of phosphoric acid at a fertilizer plant near Tampa.

Robert Pinkston fell into the tank early Wednesday morning as it was being prepared for maintenance at Mosaic in Riverview.

General Manager Robert Fredere says Pinkston was pulled from the tank and the acid was washed off. Employees called 911 and the worker was taken to Tampa General Hospital.

Fredere says the incident is under investigation and that safety procedures will be reviewed with employees.

The plant’s website says it is involved in production of fertilizer, sulfuric acid, electrical power, phosphoric acid and fluoridation ingredients.
