Man Sentenced In Fatal Apartment Shooting

DELAND, Fla. (AP) — A man who told investigators he loves guns has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for the shooting death of a visitor to his central Florida apartment.

A judge issued the order Monday.

Authorities say 23-year-old Derek Dean Young shot 22-year-old Manual Portell Jr. in April. He told investigators the shooting was accidental.

The Orlando Sentinel (http://thesent.nl/vibE52 ) reports Young admitted he had been drinking and smoking marijuana when the shooting happened.

Portell was a bartender and a student at Stetson University.

Young was also convicted of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and grand theft.
