Fire Forces Allegiant Jet To Abort Take Off

LAS VEGAS (AP) _ A California-bound Allegiant flight was evacuated in Las Vegas after an engine caught fire on the tarmac, the second such fire at the airport in recent months.

An airport official said Allegiant flight 516 was preparing to take off for Fresno at McCarran International Airport about 1:20 p.m. Sunday when a fire was reported in the right engine.

The fire was quickly put out as emergency slides were deployed.

None of the 159 passengers and crew members was injured.

All were bused back to the terminal.

Allegiant is the primary carrier at the St. Petersburg-Clearwater airport. Several Allegiant flights have been forced to return to PIE with mechanical issues.
