In a surprise Jessica Ehrlich announced today that she is suspending her campaign to run for the late Congressman C.W. Bill Young’s seat.

Ehrlich was campaigning for the District 13 congressional seat. On Wednesday she released a statement thanking all those who supported her and promised her continual support to Pinellas County.

The release ended with, “While this is not the result I was hoping for, I remain committed to helping the families of Pinellas County, this state, and this country.”

Now former Florida gubernatorial candidate Alex Sink is the only Democratic candidate campaigning for the seat.

After the announcement, Sink issued the following statement praising Ehrlich’s work in the community:

“I want to thank Jessica Ehrlich for her willingness to step forward and speak out for Pinellas families, and I hope that she will continue her involvement in bettering our community. I look forward to working together in the coming months as we continue our campaign to restore the results oriented, problem solving leadership that Pinellas families expect from our representative in Washington.”

On the Republican side, only lobbyist David Jolly has announced his candidacy so far, after Bill Young II, Rick Baker and George Cretekos all declined to run.
