Dud Grenade Causes Stir At FL Park

HOBE SOUND, Fla. (AP) _ Authorities responded to a central Florida park after someone reported finding a hand grenade.

Martin County fire officials say the grenade was spotted on a bicycle trail at Jonathan Dickinson State Park in Hobe Sound Wednesday afternoon.

The sheriff’s office reports that a member of the bomb squad responded to determine whether the fragmentation grenade was live and to remove it.

The area around the device was blocked off, but the park wasn’t evacuated.

The sheriff’s office reported on its Twitter page Wednesday evening that the grenade was a dud.

Treasure Coast Newspapers reports that the park used to be home to a radar training school that opened in 1942 during World War II.
