Drone Kills Suspected Al Qaeda Militants In Yemen

A drone strike targeting a convoy killed six people in southeastern Yemen early Thursday, including four with links to al Qaeda, local security officials said.

Two civilians were among those killed in the strike in Mareb province, which targeted two vehicles, security officials said.

Yemen says it foiled al Qaeda plot

“Mareb was a previous stronghold for al Qaeda, and a number of members of the group still live in the province,” a security official said.

Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula shot down a Yemeni military helicopter in that province Tuesday, a government official said.

Thursday’s operation brings the total number of suspected U.S. drone strikes in the past two weeks to six. They have killed at least 29 people, according to a tally of officials’ numbers.
