Driver Crashes Into Parked Fire Truck Trying to Grab Cell Phone

NAPLES, Fla. (AP) _ The Florida Highway Patrol says a 26-year-old driver crashed into a parked fire truck while reaching down to grab his cell phone.

Firefighters had parked the truck on the road to tend to a medical emergency in North Naples on Sunday when Sean P. Smith crashed into it.

Battalion Chief Al Duffy says the truck’s emergency lights were on and cones had been set up behind the truck.

No one was inside the truck when the crash happened.

The Naples Daily News (http://bit.ly/NyFaR1 ) reports the collision caused about $50,000 worth of damage to the fire truck and about $10,000 in damage to Smith’s 2004 Mazda RX8.

Troopers say Smith was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
