Doctors Successfully Remove Baby’s Tumor

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Doctors at Wolfson Children’s Hospital in Jacksonville have successfully removed a large, benign tumor from a month-old baby girl.

Peyton Marie Kirby was born in July 11 with a tumor called a cystic hygroma that’s caused by a lymph blood vessel malformation. It was a third of her 8-pound, 15-ounce body weight.

In early August, the baby underwent a 14-hour surgery that was complicated since the mass extended through her neck and chest and was entwined with nerves and arteries.

Doctors say minor surgeries should take care of Peyton’s scar and the hollow look the surgery left on her neck.

The parents tell the Jacksonville Times-Union (http://bit.ly/pjdHqO ) that Peyton is healthy and happy.
