Cops ID Dead Traffic Stop Shooter

BARBERVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Investigators in central Florida have identified a man who they say was killed by deputies after he fired shots at them during a traffic stop.

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday that 26-year-old Timothy Wagner fired shots at the deputies during a traffic stop west of Daytona Beach late Monday. Officials say the deputies returned fire, killing Wagner.

The driver of the pickup, which had been reported stolen, was a pregnant woman who was wounded in the crossfire. She was identified as 19-year-old Shannon Murphy. Both Wagner and Murphy are from Marion, Virginia.

Detectives say Murphy is cooperating but still faces charges.

The deputies weren’t injured, and they’re on administration leave as the Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigates.
