Volusia Man Shoots Woman, Police Dog, Self

DELTONA, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say a man shot a woman and a police dog during a domestic disturbance at a central Florida home before turning the gun on himself.

Volusia County Sheriff’s spokesman Gary Davidson tells the Daytona Beach News-Journal the woman and the dog don’t appear to have life-threatening injuries. Bu the man died during the incident that began late Wednesday in Deltona.

Shots were fired shortly after deputies responded to a 911 call from the home.

A deputy’s dog was shot, but Davidson says the deputies didn’t return fire. The man fled into the nearby woods. A helicopter crew from the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office spotted a man on the ground early Thursday. Then deputies heard a gunshot.

Davidson says deputies found the man’s body a short time later.
