RULING EXPECTED ON MOM WHO DROVE KIDS INTO OCEAN
A judge is expected to decide whether a mother who pleaded insanity to charges of driving her three children into the ocean off Daytona Beach should be involuntarily hospitalized for mental health treatment or released under supervision. After two days of testimony last week, Judge Leah Case said she would give her decision Tuesday. Case previously ruled that Ebony Wilkerson was not guilty by reason of insanity on charges of child abuse, and prosecutors dropped attempted murder charges.
JUDGE NIXES MOST OF LAWSUIT AGAINST SEMINOLE TRIBE
A Broward County judge has dismissed most of a lawsuit seeking $250 million in damages from the Seminole Tribe of Florida over a contract dispute. The tribe said Monday that Circuit Judge Carlos Rodriguez dismissed all of Mobile Mike Media Group’s claims against the tribe itself and most of the claims against individuals named in the lawsuit.
FLORIDA WOMAN CHARGED WITH TRYING TO HIRE HITMAN
Polk County deputies say they’ve arrested a Lakeland woman for trying to hire a hitman to murder her husband who owns a pizza shop with her. The sheriff’s office reports that 47-year-old Tanya Senay Demirhan was arrested Saturday on felony charges of solicitation to commit a first-degree murder and unlawful use of a two-way communication device.
PARENTS OF FLORIDA BOY KILLED BY DOGS ARRESTED
The parents of a north Florida toddler who was killed by the family’s Rottweilers have been arrested on manslaughter and child neglect charges. The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office says 29-year-old Christopher Camejo and 31-year-old Claudia Scarbrough were home when the dogs attacked their son on Dec. 6.
9 SHOT AT BASKETBALL COURT IN MIAMI
Police say nine people who were playing basketball at a Miami park have been injured, one critically, in a drive-by shooting. Miami-Dade police were still searching for the shooter Tuesday morning. They say they don’t yet have a motive for the Monday afternoon shooting at Arcola Lakes Park. Authorities say a car approached the courts and a passenger opened fire.
