Canadian Tourist, Drowns Off Daytona Beach

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say a 70-year-old Canadian tourist has drowned off Daytona Beach.

Volusia County Beach Patrol spokeswoman Tamara Marris says the man had been swimming alone Monday afternoon in an unguarded area of the beach.

The Daytona Beach News-Journal (http://bit.ly/zkXlPA) reports someone spotted the man floating in the water about 4 p.m. and called 911. Rescuers attempted CPR on the man, but he did not respond.

The newspaper reports he was pronounced dead about 5 p.m. at Halifax Health Medical Center of Daytona Beach.

The man’s name has not been released. No further details were immediately available.
