DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) _ Officials say bike week’s 75th anniversary attracted larger than normal crowds in Daytona Beach, which resulted in a higher number of citations being issued to motorcyclists.
Daytona Beach police Capt. Jennifer Krosschell tells the Daytona Beach News-Journal officers issued 1,049 citations and 398 arrests during the 10-day even earlier this month.
During last year’s bike Last year, there were 318 arrests and 673 citations issued.
The city doesn’t separate citations by types of violations, but Krosschell says many offenses were for revving engines.
That’s not allowed because cyclists could lose control of their bikes and spin into the crowds.
She adds that most of the arrests were the result of fights, disorderly conduct and having open containers of alcohol.
