County Jail Inmate Commits Suicide

OCALA, Fla. (AP) _ Authorities say a Marion County Jail inmate committed suicide. commits

A fellow inmate alerted corrections officers of the suicide attempt just before 5 p.m. Monday.

Jail officials say CPR was performed by corrections officers until medical personnel arrived.

The Ocala Star-Banner (http://bit.ly/IRQlVP ) reports the inmate was taken to the hospital, where he died.

Sheriff’s deputies say the 37-year-old inmate was in jail on a grand theft charge and had been in and out of jail 23 times.

He had also served prison time in Florida on offenses that included burglary, DUI and drug possession.

Officials say the man was not on a suicide watch.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has taken over the investigation.
