NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — Thousands of pages of documents help fill out a picture of the Newtown school gunman’s mother as a dedicated and loving parent who acknowledged her 20-year-old son appeared to be spiraling downward but was not aware to what extent.
Nancy Lanza told a lifelong friend days before the massacre that her son, Adam, was becoming increasingly despondent.
About two weeks later, he fatally shot her in the head, gunned down 20 first-graders and six educators at Sandy Hook Elementary School, and killed himself.
Connecticut police released the documents Friday from their investigation into the December 2012 massacre. They provide the most detailed and disturbing picture yet of Nancy Lanza’s relationship with her son; his fascination with violence; and the brave attempts by school employees to protect the children.
