Clearwater Home Invasion

Clearwater police are looking for a man who broke into an elderly couples home Tuesday morning on the 2300 block of Shelly Street.

The suspect was loitering in the area and had walked by several times, appearing to “case” the victims’ house.

The 83-year-old female victim noticed the suspect and alerted her 81-year-old husband. The male victim opened the door to investigate and was met by the suspect.

The suspect pushed the male victim down on the floor, forced his way into the home and battered both victims.

The suspect took jewelry from the victims and dragged the elderly male victim into the bathroom and locked him inside.

The suspect also took the male victim’s wallet and car keys and fled in the couple’s Ford Explorer. The vehicle was recovered approximately 30 minutes later in the parking lot at Sam’s Club on Gulf to Bay Boulevard.

The victims were transported for non-life-threatening injuries to a local hospital.

The suspect is not known to the victims but is described as a black or biracial male, approxmently 30-years-old, 6’2″ and 160 pounds.
