Clashes With Police Mar NYC Protests

New York

Thousands of people marched in Manhattan Saturday to protest the killing of unarmed black men by police officers – a demonstration marred by sporadic clashes with police. NYPD officers were swarmed by protesters in a knock-down, drag-out brawl on the Brooklyn Bridge that left two police lieutenants hospitalized and a 29-year-old man arrested on felony charges for assaulting the two officers.

Meanwhile, New York City’s rank-and-file police union is urging its members to ban Mayor Bill de Blasio from their funerals, the latest episode in the ongoing clash between the mayor and the city’s law-enforcement power structure.
