Children Reunited With Relatives After Standoff

LOS ANGELES — The four children who authorities say were abducted by their father and went missing for days have been reunited with relatives in Southern California.

The boys ran to safety Thursday morning after officers located Daniel Perez’s vehicle on a freeway in suburban San Diego. Perez came to a stop on an elevated ramp and then engaged officers in a standoff until being cornered by armored trucks and fleeing his vehicle.

None of the four boys were physically harmed in the ordeal.

The boys’ mother, Erica Perez, was found dead in the trunk of another vehicle belonging to the family on Wednesday. No charges have been filed against Perez but authorities say he is a person of interest in his wife’s death and could also face child endangerment charges.
