A motorist died early Wednesday after crashing into a tree with such force the car split in two, police said.
Officers responded at 2:30 a.m. to the collision, which took place near the intersection of Martin Luther King Drive and Himes Avenue.
It was not immediately clear what caused the unidentified driver, who had been traveling north on Himes Avenue, to veer off the road and into the tree.
The driver died on scene.
An investigation is underway.
