Car Flys Off Highway on I-75 in St. Pete

A speeding car flew off a highway overpass, fell more than 20 feet and then rolled into a concrete column early Wednesday, troopers said.

And the driver, troopers said, was largely OK.

The man, who paramedics said was sitting on one of the car’s dislodged tires when they arrived, was taken to Bayfront Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The car, a Honda, drove over an overpass wall on Interstate 175 and landed on 4th Avenue S near Tropicana Field just after midnight, troopers said. Officials believe the car was heading north at the time of the crash.

It was not immediately clear what caused the Honda to fly off the road, but troopers said the man was likely speeding.

The investigation is ongoing.
