Brandi Chastain Talks World Cup, Emergence of Soccer in the U.S.

The U.S. has been eliminated from the World Cup but Americans are still tuning in to watch, suggesting a growing passion for soccer in the United States. Can this passion carry on for the American women when it’s their turn in 2015?

Two-time World Cup champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist Brandi Chastain joined Your Wake Up Call to talk about soccer’s growing popularity in the U.S., including the emergence of social media, making for a more interactive experience among fans in addition to provide accessibility to players.

We revisited her unforgettable moment at the 1999 World Cup, when she clinched a victory for the U.S. women against China on American soil and talked about what it did for women’s sports. We also talked about what it’s going to take for the U.S. Women’s National Team to reach the final again in 2015.
