Bradenton Dog Won’t Be Euthanized: Judge

A judge has spared the life of a dog by declaring Florida’s mandatory euthanization of pet’s who severely bite humans unconstitutional.

The case centered on Padi, the Labrador mix who bit part of a 4 year old boy’s ear off at the veterinary office of Dr. Paul Gartenberg, Padi’s owner.

Accounts of just led to the incident vary, but Gartenberg believes the child provoked Padi into biting him.

But according to Florida law, Padi must be put down because the bite was severe.

Gartenberg challenged the must-kill law in court, and the judge said it’s a bad law because it summarily imposes punishment without due process.

In other words, a chance for the dog’s owner to make his or her case for the pet.
