Boy Crashes Into Valrico Gas Station

Car_2013A father faces charges after his unlicensed 16-year-old son, whom he was teaching how to drive, crashed into a gas station in Valrico on Sunday afternoon.

Deputies say Andrew Burbridge, with his father John in the passenger seat, pulled up to the Hess station at 3353 Lithia Pine Crest Road in a 2005 Toyota Camry when he hit the gas pedal instead of the brake and drove into the front of the store.

No customers were struck by the car, deputies say, but a man received a scratch and a woman was hospitalized with neck and back pain after that man pushed her out of the way.

Deputies say the crash caused about $5,000 damage to the store and $6,000 to the car.

Andrew Burbridge was cited for driving without a valid driver’s license, and John Burbridge was charged with permitting an unauthorized driver.
